RESEARCHED COURIER GUIDE

How to Arrange Delivery for an Order You’ve Already Paid For

Find out how to arrange a courier for an already-paid store order, add an authorized pickup person, confirm readiness and understand store-to-home delivery costs.

You’ve already bought an item online and selected store pickup. Now you need someone else to collect it and bring it home. In Gwinnett County, that can mean a small hardware order waiting in Lawrenceville, office supplies at a Duluth store, or household merchandise ready across town. The purchase is complete, but getting the order from the counter to your door is a separate task.

Can you hire a courier to deliver an order you’ve already paid for? Often, yes—provided the store allows another person to collect it, the courier is named or otherwise authorized according to that store’s rules, and the items fit the delivery service. The courier does not normally repurchase the merchandise. Instead, the store releases the prepaid order to the permitted pickup person, who transports it to the delivery address.

The important part is arranging everything in the correct order. A paid receipt by itself may not authorize a stranger to collect merchandise. Some retailers let you edit the pickup person’s name after checkout; others have tighter limits or distinct rules for curbside pickup. CourierPlot’s prepaid-store workflow is built around those differences: request the trip, confirm the assigned driver is authorized, wait until the store says the order is ready, and then coordinate collection. This guide explains that process and its limitations.

Pay the store for the goods, then arrange the delivery separately

Place an eligible pickup order with the retailer. Request transport from a local courier. After a driver is assigned, add that person’s name to the retailer’s pickup authorization, if supported. Confirm the order is ready before dispatch travels to the store. The courier then collects the approved items and delivers them to the address supplied.

Retailer rules, package restrictions and dispatch capacity still apply. Payment for merchandise does not automatically guarantee third-party collection.

Start by checking which pickup option you purchased

Stores use similar words for services that operate differently. Store pickup generally means a retailer prepares an online order for collection at a counter, pickup area, or locker. Curbside pickup may require check-in through the retailer’s app. A ship-to-store order often has a longer preparation period because the merchandise must first arrive at the chosen location.

For courier delivery, the first question is whether the order can be released to another person at all. Look at the retailer’s order-details page before booking. Find the pickup name, authorized-person field, or instructions for adding a person. Check whether photo identification, a confirmation email, a barcode, or access to the retailer’s app is required. You should not forward account passwords or payment-card details to a courier.

The second and third steps require coordination. A customer may request a price before the courier has been assigned, but should not invent a pickup person’s name or add a randomly chosen employee. Wait for a confirmed driver identity and then update the retailer order as instructed. Where a store will not permit that update, contact the store before committing to transport.

Can another person pick up orders from Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot, or Target?

These retailers offer several third-party pickup paths, but they are not interchangeable. Their published help pages describe different ways to designate an alternate person. The comparison below summarizes the specific options they publicly document as of October 2026; your order type, item category and processing stage can change what’s available.

Retailer Published alternate pickup route Key point before dispatch
Walmart Add or change an alternate pickup person through the order flow or order details, where available. Verify the chosen order’s pickup instructions and timing.
Lowe’s Enter an alternate pickup person’s full name and email during checkout or update the order afterward when permitted. The person may need photo ID and the order number or confirmation email.
Home Depot Eligible orders may allow adding or changing an authorized pickup person through the account or Order Status page. Edits may no longer be possible once the order has been processed or shipped.
Target Order Pickup supports designated alternate pickup people or shopping partners; Drive Up has different shopping-partner requirements. Check whether the order is designated as Order Pickup or Drive Up.
Office Depot Use the “Someone else will pick up my order” option when placing the order. The designated person must bring the pickup confirmation and valid ID.

These statements come from the retailers’ own help material: Walmart pickup changes, Lowe’s store pickup, Home Depot order management, Target pickup procedures, and Office Depot pickup authorization. Each policy may be revised, so confirm the applicable steps on your live order before making arrangements.

Important distinction

A courier is a person authorized by the purchaser to transport a package. That is not the same as having independent permission from the retailer to release it. The retailer’s system and staff control the actual pickup authorization.

What information should you give the courier before collection?

A detailed pickup request prevents wasted trips. A store name such as “Walmart in Gwinnett” is not enough because different locations may use distinct counters, doors, holding areas and pickup instructions. The order must be associated with the exact store address selected during checkout.

Information Why dispatch needs it What to verify
Store street address Calculates the correct loaded route Correct branch and pickup entrance
Home or business address Determines delivery distance and eligibility Suite, gate and recipient details
Package description and size Checks the vehicle and item limits Dimensions, weight and number of parcels
Order readiness Prevents an unnecessary store visit Actual ready-for-pickup notification
Authorized person Helps the store verify the collector Correct driver’s legal name and required ID
Handoff instructions Supports delivery to the right person Recipient availability and access instructions

Never include a full payment-card number or retailer-account password in these notes. Share only the pickup identifiers needed for authorized collection through the service’s designated channels. If a retailer insists on account access rather than the ordinary pickup documents, contact that retailer to confirm a safe alternative.

How does a prepaid store pickup work in CourierPlot?

CourierPlot’s booking application includes a prepaid retail collection option. Customers choose a retailer from the available list or select another retailer, enter the store as the pickup address, describe the items, and provide the delivery location. The system can return a mileage-based estimate for an eligible route, but the request still goes through dispatch review.

Before collection, CourierPlot needs two important confirmations. First, the customer must add the specifically assigned driver as the permitted pickup person when the retailer requires authorization. Second, the customer must confirm that the store has marked the order ready. The pickup workflow includes reminders to prompt customers who have not yet confirmed readiness. A reminder does not turn an unready order into a ready one, and it does not authorize the courier to collect merchandise.

For a dedicated discussion of one retailer’s rules, see Can Someone Pick Up My Home Depot Order and Deliver It?. That guide focuses on Home Depot’s pickup-person changes, handoff requirements and practical preparation.

How much will it cost to deliver something you’ve already paid for?

The price paid to the retailer is separate from the charge for bringing the merchandise to your address. CourierPlot calculates the mileage-based delivery charge using the loaded road distance from the pickup store to the delivery address. It does not automatically add the driver’s approach trip as a second billable leg. The initial three loaded road miles are covered by the published starting price.

Store-to-home driving distance Scheduled Standard Express priority
3 loaded miles $16.95 $21.95 $29.95
5 loaded miles $19.95 $25.45 $33.95
8 loaded miles $24.45 $30.70 $39.95
12 loaded miles $30.45 $37.70 $47.95

These are calculated examples using starting prices of $16.95, $21.95 and $29.95, with additional loaded-mile charges of $1.50, $1.75 and $2.00 respectively. They are not live route quotations. Any special handling, waiting or return arrangements must be reviewed before approval. Learn more in How Local Courier Delivery Mileage Is Calculated and How Much a Courier Costs in Gwinnett County.

What types of purchases can a small-package courier collect?

Being prepaid and ready does not make every item suitable for a local courier. A boxed faucet or light office supply is different from an assembled refrigerator, a large sheet of plywood, or a chemical that requires special handling. Retailers may also restrict release of certain goods because of product type, age checks or store procedures.

Purchase type What to check Practical outcome
Small boxed hardware or household item Dimensions, weight and safe packaging May be suitable after review
Office supplies or ordinary printed goods Package count and recipient instructions Often appropriate when within limits
Large appliances, lumber or bulky furniture Vehicle space and loading requirements May exceed current small-package capability
Prescription drugs, alcohol, hazardous chemicals or other restricted items Applicable laws, licensing and CourierPlot exclusions Not accepted under the current delivery policy
Temperature-sensitive groceries or perishables Storage and safe transport requirements Not part of the current ordinary small-package service

CourierPlot’s published delivery and restricted-items policy controls acceptance. Customers should provide the actual size, weight and contents before dispatch approves a job. The system’s default package weight limit is not a promise that every item under that weight will fit a vehicle or satisfy all handling rules.

What happens if the store says the order isn’t ready—or refuses release?

The most avoidable failure is dispatching a driver on the strength of an order confirmation rather than the retailer’s ready notice. Processing, substitutions and stock checks can delay release even when the purchase has been paid for. Lowe’s specifically tells customers to wait for its pickup-ready notification, and other retailers have their own timing rules. This is why CourierPlot requests a readiness confirmation before collection.

A refusal can also happen when the assigned driver’s name does not match the pickup authorization, the required confirmation is missing, or the item is unavailable. If the store will not release the order, the driver should not pressure staff or claim to be the purchaser. The customer must resolve the authorization with the retailer. Dispatch then reviews whether another pickup attempt is possible and whether any additional handling costs apply.

Before you authorize collection

Check both names: the name of the person actually assigned by CourierPlot and the name recorded in the retailer’s order. If those do not match, fix the discrepancy before confirming readiness.

Can a prepaid order be delivered outside Gwinnett County?

CourierPlot’s core area is Gwinnett County. A pickup at a qualifying store inside Gwinnett and a destination just across a county boundary may be considered following dispatch review. That does not mean every store-to-home trip into Hall, Barrow or Walton County is automatically accepted. The addresses and route must be checked, along with available capacity.

There is no separate county-line surcharge for an approved nearby extension. The same loaded-mile pricing formula applies. If either location is within a city that spans county lines—such as Buford, Braselton, Auburn or Loganville—use the exact street address rather than assuming eligibility from the city name. See Courier Delivery Across Gwinnett’s Neighboring Counties for the service-boundary details.

Frequently asked questions about already-paid store orders

Do I pay the courier for the store merchandise?

No. Under a prepaid collection, the retailer receives payment for the merchandise through your original purchase. CourierPlot charges separately for eligible transport from the pickup location to the delivery address.

Can I book delivery before the retailer says my order is ready?

You may request a quote and begin coordination, but collection should not be dispatched until the retailer has confirmed that the order is ready and any required pickup-person authorization is complete.

Do I have to add the courier driver’s legal name?

When the retailer requires an authorized or alternate pickup person, enter the confirmed driver’s identity using that retailer’s permitted process. Requirements differ among stores and order types.

Can the courier pick up a Walmart or Lowe’s order?

Potentially, yes. Both retailers publicly document alternate pickup-person workflows. The individual order must allow it, and the items must meet CourierPlot’s size, handling and route requirements.

Does the store-to-home price include the driver’s travel to the store?

The published mileage formula uses loaded road miles between store and destination. The driver’s approach trip is not automatically added to the customer-billed distance.

Arrange the handoff before choosing the pickup time

A prepaid order is easiest to deliver when three people have the same information: the customer who paid, the retailer preparing the goods, and the courier who will collect them. Verify the order number and pickup permissions, agree on the exact store entrance, and provide a reachable delivery recipient. These checks often matter more than saving a few minutes on the route.

CourierPlot can review eligible small-package pickup requests in Gwinnett County through its online booking application. Use the prepaid store pickup option, provide both addresses and accurate item details, and wait for a confirmed courier assignment. For a broader overview of the steps after a request, read How Same-Day Courier Booking Works.

Retailer procedures can change without notice. Always rely on the latest instructions attached to your actual purchase and confirm that the assigned person is authorized before a driver travels to the store.
